STANDARD 6.3

Engage with colleagues and improve practice: Demonstrate an understanding of the role of colleagues and external professionals in broadening teachers’ professional knowledge and practice.

As someone who has always believed that the essence of artistic creation lies not in solitary endeavour but in collaborative exchange, I've come to see this principle as fundamental to teaching as well. Just as I've witnessed true artists flourish through connection rather than isolation, I've discovered that effective teaching in the 21st century emerges from collective approaches to creative and pedagogical processes. This understanding became deeply personal and evident through my own participation in Technology and Design domain meetings, which I found to be vital forums for my professional growth and collaborative inquiry.

ARTEFACT 2:
COLLEAGUE FEEDBACK

By inviting colleagues to observe and discuss situations within the learning environment, I gained essential moral support while becoming aware of previously unrecognised aspects of my teaching practice. These included insights into my relationships with students and staff, work ethic, and professional rapport—perspectives that could only emerge through this collaborative third lens (Churchill et al., 2022).

Artefact 2 are excerpts from peer feedback forms completed by other staff members, documented during my three placements. They provide tangible evidence of my developing role within the team and my growing ability to connect meaningfully with both students and colleagues within shared learning environments. This experience reinforced my recognition that Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and networks offer vital opportunities to build collegial relationships, share responsibility for student learning, and continuously improve practice through mentoring, diverse perspectives, and evidence-informed approaches. During my placements, I observed firsthand how PLCs function within school contexts through weekly feedback dicussions scheduled professional development sessions. Being part of these professional communities enabled me to engage in meaningful reflective discussions, receive constructive feedback, and explore pedagogical strategies that enhanced both my professional identity and confidence. The collaborative nature of these interactions mirrors the artistic process itself—where creation emerges not from isolation but from the dynamic exchange of ideas, perspectives, and shared commitment to excellence in both craft and outcome.
