TASK three:
curriculum-aligned learning experience
"In the Australian Curriculum, General Capabilities encompass knowledge, skills, behaviours, and dispositions that, together with curriculum content in each learning area and the cross-curriculum priorities, will enable students to live and work successfully in the 21st century”
(ACARA, n.d)
The chosen art form for this resource is Visual Arts from The Arts learning area, specifically targeting the Year 7–8 band and its descriptors. The resource is structured into three key stages - Research, Making, and Reflect - introducing students to the creative process. Each stage includes three activity suggestions related to the theme of Pattern, all aligned with the Australian Curriculum’s criteria and standards. These model an iteration of a creative process to improve students' notion of 'making and responding' and 'student as artist and audience'. Shulman’s (1987) concept of pedagogical reasoning and action - understanding educational purposes, subject matter structures, and adapting them for student learning - closely informs how teachers sequence activities and lessons. Similarly, Sleep (2012) emphasizes the importance of understanding the connections between learning activities and how lessons build toward educational goals. With this in mind, the resource I have designed aligns the learning experience with ACARA’s General Capabilities for levels 7–8, ensuring each stage supports key curriculum objectives through practical application.
