learn!
The learning strategy we are focussing on this unit is how to develop and apply the 8 Studio Habits of Mind.
These are ways of thinking and responding that can also be used in other subjects as a framework or you to engage in the learning process!
The 8 Habits of Mind are important to learn because they help you become a stronger, more independent artist. They teach you how to think creatively, solve problems, and express ideas in meaningful ways. These habits also encourage you to take risks, reflect on your progress, and develop technical skills that support your artistic vision. Beyond the art room, they build valuable life skills like perseverance, critical thinking, and self-awareness that you can use in any area of your life.
Observe:Use all your senses to notice and explore what’s around you, moving beyond the obvious to gain new insights. Stay open and curious about any thoughts, emotions, or physical sensations that arise.
Develop:Figure out the skills, strategies, and processes needed to shape and refine new ideas that help achieve your creative goals.
Explore:Step outside your comfort zone with bravery and a sense of curiosity, allowing yourself to experiment and discover in unexpected ways.
Envision:Imagine and plan your creative work by picturing the final outcome and the steps needed to get there. Think creatively and strategically about what’s possible.
Express:Bring your idea to life in a way that communicates meaning, emotion, or narrative. Use your artwork to share something personal and authentic with others.
Engage and Persist:Begin your creative process with energy and interest, and stay committed even when challenges arise. Let your curiosity drive you, and maintain focus on your goals despite obstacles.
Reflect:Think critically about your own or others’ work—what succeeded, what could improve, and how the idea evolved from the beginning to now.
Understand the World:Recognize both the differences and connections between people and cultures. Understand how art mirrors society and how cultural identity is shaped through artistic expression and practice.
