how to use
your folio

Completing an art folio or workbook is an essential practice for students as it encourages critical and reflective thinking, while documenting their creative process over time. According to the Australian Curriculum: The Arts (Visual Arts), students are expected to “develop and refine visual and spatial skills” and “plan and evaluate their visual arts works” (ACAVAM125, ACAVAM126).

A workbook or folio enables students to visually and verbally track their experimentation with materials, techniques, and ideas—promoting a deeper understanding of their artistic choices. It also supports the development of visual literacy and personal voice, aligning with the curriculum’s emphasis on responding to and interpreting visual artworks in diverse cultural and historical contexts.
